Florida Tech Honored as Tier 1 Best National University

For the eighth year in a row, Florida Tech has been named a Tier 1 Best National University by U.S. News & World Report. It rose 20 spots over the previous year, ranking No. 151 among 1,400 schools for 2018.

Florida Tech claimed the No. 2 spot among private national universities in Florida and was one of just seven schools statewide to hit the top 200.

“Our focus on student success continues to pay dividends for this university, and we are making great progress,” President Dwayne McCay said in a statement. “The depth of our programs, led by an outstanding faculty, equates to amazing educational opportunities for our students that culminate in career success for a lifetime.”

Florida Tech has also been ranked among the nation’s Best Online Programs, including its graduate computer information technology, bachelor’s, MBA and graduate business (excluding MBA) programs.

The 2018 rankings are the latest recognition for Florida Tech, which was founded in Melbourne in 1958. The university has been named one of the fastest-growing U.S. colleges by The Chronicle of Higher Education, the top private school in Florida by Forbes and among the nation’s best universities for having a high return on investment by PayScale.

U.S. News & World Report ranks schools in seven areas:

  • Undergraduate academic reputation
  • Graduation and retention rates
  • Faculty resources
  • Student selectivity
  • Financial resources
  • Alumni giving
  • Graduation rate performance

At Florida Tech, 51% of full-time undergraduate students obtain some form of need-based financial aid, and the average scholarship or grant is $25,435, according to the rankings.

Florida Tech also has the most internationally diverse undergraduate student body of any national university. In fall 2017, Florida Tech students represented 117 countries.
