Fiske Guide Recognizes Florida Tech as a Top Technical Institute

Florida Tech has been named a Top Technical Institute by the influential 2017 Fiske Guide to Colleges. The recognition puts Florida Tech in company with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) and the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI).

Given Florida Tech’s location on the Space Coast, “it comes as no surprise that some of the most cutting-edge work in space and water-related sciences happen here,” the Fiske Guide said. Florida Tech is “a high-flying and innovative school.” It also cited Florida Tech’s strong academics and international diversity.

The Fiske Guide has been published for more than 30 years, and the most recent edition profiles over 320 four-year schools in the United States, plus a selection of schools in Canada, Great Britain and Ireland. USA Today called it “the best college guide you can buy.”

The guide evaluates schools on eight dimensions:

  • Academics
  • Campus setting
  • Student body
  • Financial aid
  • Housing
  • Food
  • Social life
  • Extracurriculars

The information is collected through administrative input and student surveys.

“Whether it’s surveying marine coral 50 feet below the sea or the sky 30,000 feet above, students at Florida Tech get hands-on experience that serves to sharpen the school’s already specialized, high-quality academics,” the guide said. “The administration continues to focus on capital improvements, sponsor cutting-edge research and embrace diversity.”

The Fiske Guide isn’t the only organization to recognize Florida Tech recently. PayScale, a salary information service, recently named Florida Tech one of the nation’s top universities for return on investment 20 years after graduation.
